Location is "a" factor, not "the" factor. We outrecruit most of the ACC...

There's simply a pecking order in college football, and as Beamer once said 20-some years ago. "(paraphrasing) its very difficult and rare for a football program to change "who they are"."

Beamer lifted the perception of VT football from the perceived level of ECU (and recruited like ECU) to the level of a Wisconsin, Iowa, or Michigan State. That's pretty much where we recruit nowamong those guys.

There were some years where Beamer flirted heavily with VT becoming an elite program, but it didn't happen, and that ultimately is why, I think, we are kind of treading water now.

VT's status was very much up in the air between 1999-2011, but big stage loss after big stage loss, over and over again, in my opinion really cemented VT among the 2nd tier of football. I think had many of those games gone the other way, VT perception and thereby, recruiting would be a lot better than it is today.

We took our shots, and it didn't work out. Unlike Clemson, who finally broke through and started beating top 5 programs regularly. They have been rewarded for that.

VT's recruiting is much more closely tied to WHO we are, not WHERE we are.
