It isn't just about how close the campus is to a large city


It may have more to do with the proximity the campus (including satellite campuses) are to where the alumni live. It takes at least 5 hours for someone living in either NOVA or the 757 to drive to Blacksburg. If you drew a circle with a 5 hour radius around State College, then you will see the circle includes the following states outside of PA: MD, NY, NJ, OH, WVU, VA, DE, maybe MA, and maybe CT. Now draw that same circle around Blacksburgs and you will see it is a huge difference between the schools.
