"never delivered" is not accurate since he stuck it out and got one his senior year. The issue is timing in this case. Not saying your friend is wrong because only someone there has the benefit of full context and tone. Could possibly be another case of interpretation and communication. Take this example, Beamer tells walkon to come and if it works out he will be placed on scholarship when available. Kid hears if I make team and contribute I will get a scholarship. Beamer saying what kid hears with one qualification. When available means other team needs can supercede but, at some point the scholarship will be given. Neither party is lying they just have a different perspective on timing. Communication and clarification is always necessary if there is any hope of avoiding a misunderstanding.
