Back in '90 or '91, before West side expansion was ever a dream
I got seats to a Thursday night game (iirc it was vs. BC) way up in the press box, high above Lane Stadium. I was driving from Richmond to Lexington, Kentucky to be installed as Chairman of the Board of a national association of state regulators I was a member of as the representative from Virginia. My mother was with me. We stopped for the night to go to the game. She didn't know a lick about football, but she always listened to Tech games on the TV because daddy and I were graduates. She was deaf as a post, so her TV volume was cranked up whenever a Tech game was on. One of my best friends had a good friend from over in the Northern Neck who was a big time Tech supporter. He was nice and gracious and gentlemanly enough that he wanted my mother to get the full treatment, so he gave us his tickets. I have always especially loved night games in Lane. So I was pleased mother got to have that experience. She was a widow for 48 years before she died, and was always a true Hokie in her own little world. God bless her heart.
