Lets agree that Spurrier/UF was a bad example to use if your argument is

"you don't need great backs if you run a pass first system" (which I would argue is not really the case with fuente anyway). UF had great backs under spurrier; at the very least they had MUCH better backs than VT has had. If VT had gone through the last 3 years with backs anywhere remotely as talented as the backs spurrier had at UF, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Which has certainly gone off the rails from the original point as I got all fixated on UF running backs.

Going way back up in the thread, the basic premise that I was trying to argue is that we need more talent at the RB position; not TOP talent, because as you say I don't think Fuente's system requires "top" talent at rb...but the guys need to be productive when given their chance. And so far, none of our RBs under Fuente have been that. They have all been fairly lowly rated prospects that have continued to play at that same level. We need borderline 4* talent at RB instead of middle-of-the-pack talent if we are to take the next step. The system doesn't change that...it changes the level of reliance on the RB, but it's the "good to great" step that won't happen with mediocre backs.
