We lost our chance to compete for one when we lost the state of Virginia
IMO. Players we routinely would get from the state are now going to Alabama, Penn state, and Ohio state. We then have no choice but to settle for the second tier talent for the most part who typically would have provided depth on past year’s teams. I remember there were years we’d routinely sign 4-6 of the consensus top 10 players in state. Now we get 2-3 on a good year. I think we 1999 we missed on the top players in state but signed like 6 of the top 10. 2000 was similar with guys like Randall, Hall, and a few others. I think if we get back to the level of in state recruiting we had in the past that would go a long way.
