Wow!

You aren't demonstrating a very good understanding of just what the program was up against last year.

Yes, the lack of recruiting at the end of Beamer's tenure hurt the program. It's absurd to deny that. The Beamer of old (late-90s through early 2010s) isn't forced to take a chance on a guy like Trevon Hill (and potentially doesn't even if they do lose out on some of the other guys on the board). We pulled in a few good players, a lot of knuckleheads, and a good number of busts. Several of the good players left early. The knuckleheads saw their way (or JF saw their way) out of the program. Unfortunately, that created a crater which we saw last year. I had been warning for a couple years that it was coming (I just thought it would be a bit more gentle, starting with a significant slide in 2017 and culminating in rock bottom last season. we instead simply plummeted to rock bottom).

As for QB development well Evans came (without Fuente, Motley is 2016's starter and we likely finish with 7-8 wins) and left just as quickly. Then Jackson started as a Freshman, then got banged up.. not to mention was pretty limited at 100% anyway and he was lucky if he was playing at 50% by season's end. If you didn't see a difference in Willis in the first game or two and Willis late in the season, you don't know what you're watching.

Can't close on non-skill players kids? Yeah, I hate that we lost Nester to Ohio State and that Dax took that last second offer to Clemson oh wait, neither thing happened. We landed both. But then we have scrubs like Hudson and Hanson to hopefully be warm bodies on the OL oh wait, they're actually well regarded OL who have a good future in front of them. That DT we stole from Temple? Well, Penn State (among others) was sniffing around too. Kendricks had a lot of other offers.

Sure, I hate that we went 6-7 last year. Sure, I wish Fuente gave more access to the program. But the worst is behind the program. We have a returning starter at QB that we hopefully won't lose to injury. We have a couple QBs with promise. And we have a solid young base of players who look to show a big step in 2019.

I also think it gets largely overlooked that while Fuente took over a G5 program he took over a dumpster fire in CUSA and not only turned it into a power inside the conference. but they actually became a power inside a MUCH better conference as Memphis stepped into the AAC during his tenure. That fact gets overlooked.

PS: As for JJ, I expect he'll start at Maryland... initially. His limitations will show and he'll get leapfrogged by the more talented young QB behind him.
