I have built one.

I also used to sell tools in all the shops in the area...but that was long enough ago and there's so much turnover in that business that I couldn't confidently say where the best place is

I will say even if some says "XYZ shop" is great, you can still very easily have a bad experience if it's a big shop...those places have everything from 20-year ASE certified guys who are great to 2-week experience guys who won't last 2 more weeks...which one will work on your car? Probably if it's something simple, the 2-week guy will because all the complex jobs that are money-makers for the mechanics go to the experienced guys.
