I think that’s where motivation skills come into play to get your players
To buy into playing the defensive roll they’ve been handed. It’s easy or fun to let guys run out & shoot the ball. Good coaches have to have the ability to convince players to play within a scheme. Play their role to the best of their ability even if that means letting someone else make the baskets more because that isn’t your role. I don’t think it comes down to a new scheme. It just comes down to motivation to play their roles & of course they have to be athletic enough. Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting!
