When I lived in Maryland...


The company I worked for hired college athletes to work during the summer and all the women's lacrosse players (6 or 7 employees over my 22 years there) came from middle to upper middle class families in the Baltimore suburbs. Most of them played lacrosse since they were 7-8 years old because their parents wanted them to get a college scholarship. All of them also played soccer. At that time, universities were starting women's lacrosse programs all over the nation for Title IX purposes. They played at schools like Cincinnati, UMBC, Long Island, Louisville, UMass,... None of them played for the top-tier programs. Some were members of the program's first or second recruiting classes. I knew a few girls who played for Maryland in my town, one of them being Kelly Kasper who was a 3-time All-American for the Terps. She was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award her senior year.
