Defense anywhere but up is not so comforting

As bad as we were, even our record deceived us. Our D was clearly one if the worst in the country, embarrassingly bad! ODU, BC, U, Pitt...took us to dark places we’ve not seen in decades. As we should know by now, must be MUCH, MUCH better to stand a chance in the improving ACC, not just better. Bud knows this all too well and he won’t stand for this. He will not allow to further taint his great legacy any longer. Next year should be his last, IMO. This is when we will know what kind of coach CJF really is, hiring our DC, perhaps one of the most important hires ever in history of our program, certainly as an assistant. Great defense and special teams have been the foundation for us, but that’s been crumbling. SO, for this coming season, there may be glimmers of hope, but spring practice will not change it much, maybe fundamentally some but not too much expectation there. Game experience will No can doubt, CJF is offense first guy and that won’t ever likely change. He’s become a “we better score more points than them” guy. Our defense recruiting emphasis is obviously no comparison to his offense priority. A sign of that, our new JUCO defensive linemen signees, who are desperate patchwork for our D. Our emphasis better change for our D, starting with our DC, then recruiting, etc or our once great program will fall further into depths of mass mediocrity or possibly, even worse.
