The post NCAA emotional hangover is real!! What a roller coaster ride those 3 days are and too be able to get off on the peak, was pretty special! First off, want to thank Hokie Nation for the ridiculous support you showed in Pittsburgh, not only at the venue but on the streets and at all the socials! The type of unconditional support you guys show is not common across the country and you guys are what make #ThisIsHome the perfect slogan for Virginia Tech Athletics!
Saturday night could not have been more perfect, Mekhi Lewis showed America what we all in Blacksburg have known for quite some time now, HE is as SPECIAL as they get! Just about every aspect of the evening has been so well documented, so there isn't a whole lot I need to talk about, which is nice, and he did all the talking necessary on the mat. I, as I know all of you are just so extremely proud of Mekhi, and ALL the young men who represent Virginia Tech. We have an amazing group of kids, who have been brought up right and only want to represent themselves to the highest standards. Only one guy achieved what he set out to achieve last weekend, so their were 9 hurting individuals that needed to be consoled, built back up, and will be better next time...in what ever field that may be!
So moving forward, the excitement is high and we intend to build on that! All the boys that didn't wrestle are already grinding in the room, with a few of them preparing to wrestle at the US Open in Vegas...whether it be at the Jr. Level or the Sr. Level. Robie and I are hard at work scouring the country for an opening on our staff, as well as 1 possibly 2 RTC positions. With the noteriety of Mekhi and the consistency of Hokie Wrestling on the national stage, people want to be a part of what is going on in Blacksburg! To attract the best the SERTC is going to play a huge role in supporting Olympic aspirations, workout partners, and the brightest coaching minds in the sport.
