That's a fair observation


And you are correct on the difficulty. Making the throw from behind the plate to second requires almost perfect execution, assuming the runner has good speed.

The Hokies have only thrown out 2 of 17 runners who attempted to steal this season, but only Florida State and UNC have fewer attempted steals against them (side note - FSU's opponents have only attempted 5 stolen bases this year - they were successful on 4 of them).

Part of that low number is probably the number of lopsided games that VT has been involved in and part of it is probably respect for Lauren Duff - she was 2nd in the conference in runners thrown out during her last two seasons played with a total of 28 runners caught stealing. This year, only 5 runners have tried to steal against her and she nailed one of them.

Mackenzie Lawter hasn't yet gotten into the grove there - opponents are 11 for 11 in steal attempts against her this season. (Note: HokieSports has missing assigned one caught stealing stat).

So, I wouldn't conclude that we're terrible in that category, but there is certainly room for improvement.
