I have yet to find any good much less decent contractor to do things to my house. We bought during the downturn so the house while nice had builder grade stuff and needed some TLC. We got a deck, just put in a screened in patio underneath. We have had custom bookshelves put in around a new gas fireplace recently. All of those have been nightmares from a salesman, to getting them to do the work right, etc.

We still have a basement to finish, a master bath to remodel, and probably a kitchen remodel.

Told my wife, next house better be perfect not doing this again :-

The fact that other people you know have gone with them with good results, would not worry to much. Did you ask them if they had the same pushy tactic on them? Could also be the salesman is trying to hit a monthly figure and was trying to hard sell you to get over his bottom number/commission.
