I could be wrong, but I think the Double Bye has only been there for the 17, 18 and 19 Tourneys.

In 2019, the high seed has won every game.
In 2018, UNC was the 6 and won 3 games to get to the Final.
In 2017, Duke was the 5 and won 3 games to get to the Final.

In 2016, UNC was the 7 and won 3 games to win it all, but no double bye...

Your point is valid. I don't think it was much of an issue in yesterday's game, but it would probably have been a big issue for us today vs. UVA because of our lack of bench. If you want to win the tourney, the difference between the #4 and #5 seed is very large because of the double bye.
