Remember the debates we used to have...

on the ceiling of the VT program.

There were many on this board who insisted VT was a permanent basketball graveyard and that no coach would be able to enjoy sustained success here due to a variety of factors: too rural, too remote, too football oriented, too hard to recruit, not a traditional blue blood, not enough resources, old coliseum.

There were many others who said no, if VT would actually hire a proven head coach with a proven track record of success, you'd be surprised how things might turn around.

Well, IMHO Whit and Buzz have settled that debate forever. Who would have thought that so soon after Greenberg's final disastrous season and JJ's two crater years, we would be talking about 3 consecutive big dance appearances, 4 consecutive 20 win seasons, and a VT player being a potential lottery pick in this year's NBA draft?

It is really amazing what Buzz has accomplished and done so without cheating, without being a jerk, without having to recruit a ton of 5 star players. He has shown that hard work and chemistry and being a true team can result in success in Blacksburg just like anywhere else. I'll be sad if he leaves but if so he will leave not only a great legacy but also a blueprint for how that legacy can be carried forward consistently. And I'm confident that we have an AD who values hoops and understands the qualities to look for in the leader of that program.

I've waited 3 decades since I graduated in 86 to see this kind of sustained success in hoops, and man has it been great to watch it unfold. Thank you Buzz, Whit, and players (especially the seniors) for making VT basketball fun and exciting again.
