ACC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships - Day 2 Finals Results

Solid finals for the Hokies! After tonight the Hokies sit in 3rd place with 378.5 points. NC State leads as expected with 496.5 and UVa is slotted 5th with 363. Let's dive into the results.

500 Free:
A Final -
3 Stone, Lane SO VT 4:16.26 4:13.10
B Final -
11 Dal Maso, Filip FR VT 4:19.72 4:18.10
12 Ivanov, Antani FR VT 4:18.70 4:18.22
C Final -
22 Myburgh, Keith FR VT 4:23.54 4:22.67
24 Manoff, Philip FR VT 4:23.26 4:24.01

Lane looked strong the entire race sitting anywhere from 1st - 3rd throughout ultimately claiming the bronze. Looking forward to the battles he will have with Knowles from NC State the next two seasons and at NCAAs. All Hokies except Manoff dropped from their swim this morning which is exactly how you'd script it. With a 4:13.10 I don't think there is any question Stone gets an invite to NCAAs.

200 IM:
A Final -
3 Szabo, Norbert SR VT 1:43.85 1:43.17
5 Tornqvist, Samu SO VT 1:43.75 1:44.07
B Final -
15 Workman, Sean SR VT 1:45.73 1:46.74

Szabo on the podium for the 2nd straight year in the 200 IM and a great all-around swim. Clean up the back half of that race and he can drop more at NCAAs. Tornqvist a touch slower than this morning but a strong 5th place finish. Both should make NCAAs in this event being under the 2018 invitation standard.

50 Free:
A Final -
7 Ho, Ian SR VT 19.50 19.47
B Final -
15 Hallock, Thomas SO VT 19.73 19.84
C Final -
20 Lamparella, Jac SR VT 19.81 19.66
24 Herbert, David JR VT 19.87 20.99

Ho takes 7th with .03 drop from this morning. The 50 is all about the start and turn Ho had the best reaction but seemed to come up short of the field hurting his 25 split (the slowest in the final). Still a great swim from a senior and will be on the fringe for an NCAA invite. Hallock is on deck to step up into his place as the sprinter on the team.

200 Free Relay:
5 VT 1:18.41 1:18.13
1) Ho, Ian SR 2) r:0.25 Hallock, Thomas SO
3) r:0.90 Lamparella, Jacob SR 4) r:0.09 Claesson, Henry FR
r:+0.60 19.57 38.91 (19.34)
58.38 (19.47) 1:18.13 (19.75)

Great relay in a stacked field taking 5th and beating UVa. All 4 swimmers comfortably under 20.0 will always lead to a fast relay.

Looking forward to what the next 2 days bring! Finish strong!

Go Hokies!!
