Goatzz nailed it. Nice city that lacks a real personality

It's very much a hodgepodge of the old Charlotte, the financial community (HUGE here), the transplants (lots from NY and Ohio), the southern culture that is a subtle presence, Nascar, NFL, NBA, and TONS of new construction of buildings/apts in the city and homes in the burbs.

Depending on your role and company, you might not have to go into the city for work. Make sure you ask because there is a lot of variety here. I'd generalize and say 10% work north of the city, 10% work from home a lot (mostly with the banks), 50% work in the city, 30% work south of the city. So where you work will impact where you live which impacts whether this would be a good fit for you. The best outdoor stuff is to the north west of the city.

Overall, your view of the city will probably depend on what you are used to. Compared to my time in the DC area, it can seem kind of boring here at times. But it is also not as stressful here and so much cheaper and does have some very nice areas. It's nice.
