Good Karma

So, got back late Tuesday night from the 'burg - from my dad's actually, Do dinner w/him Tuesdays, so 'burg to Vienna and finally back here 11pm: long day after starting the morning hiking around Pandapas pond.

When I get home, there are two packages on my stoop - they always wait until I'm away to deliver stuff - one I recognized right away, and one I didn't. Big, heavy box from Blue Apron.

Now, I'm kinda pissed at delivery these days b/c Amazon is sending some of their packages through Laser Delivery (or something like that) which is basically a last mile package delivery service akin to Uber or Lyft. I can't figure out how in any way that is efficient and you can find complaints out on the internet. And here's another mis-pitched package, I share the same first name with the recipient. Moral dilemma: if they can't get their act right, why should I fix it? I would want the intended recipient to not get it and complain to the company that then complains to the shippers etc. After all, the companies and shippers are trying to go as cheaply as possible. If it was a DGI drone I might have kept it.

Blue Apron is one of those cooking 101 delivery food kits , so I kinda thought about it, this is probably how the guy gets by. It's on the other side of town but maybe ten minutes out of my way with the help of Google maps. The area was a little run down, two story townhouses, so Blue Apron really is how the guy gets by, felt a little better afterwards.

So, get home, check my mail late, got another letter from the IRS "If you don't blah blah blah by March 16th" Did you guys even read my detailed and supported letter Oct 16th? Issues was that they wanted to tax me on an entire IRA transfer w/o removing basis. T Rowe Price only reports the total transfer as a taxable event not knowing or caring that most of it was from after tax money, eg, tax $20k instead of about $2k (actual earnings)

Called the IRS. Played Minesweeper for a good solid hour and half when a bright cheerful voice picks up on the other side..

Me "I'll be darned"

Explained everything, blah, blah, blah she's like, hold on for a moment, OK, there was a mistake made, the reseacher never investigated. the case is closed, you won't be getting anything from us anymore.

Me (shock and amazement) Uh, thanks!? I won??? I beat the IRS?

Anyway, nice to finally clear the table of all my pre-retirement tax returns for once and for good. Funny how you do something good in the morning, and then something good happens to me in the evening, twice in a couple weeks.

Best tennis I've played too since starting again last April but I'll credit that to actually taking a tennis lesson. Package delivery has been pretty wild over last year, mostly me getting other people's stuff. (But no drones)
