have gone instead of us is stretching the truth. The key components to VT getting in the Big East was that the Big East wanted Miami, and Miami wanted VT. And WV was also in our corner. VT had some previous playing history with Miami and a lot with WV.

Some years later there was a push to get ECU in the conference, but the northernmost schools (Pitt, SU, BC, Rutgers) were not in favor of the move. It would have been good if the stars had aligned in the later years, but the Big East management and finances weren’t the best at that time.

And ECU would never have been admitted to the ACC....the entire NC mafia would have muted that attempt.
