Like the Beamer days, redshirting the first year is a great way to develop

young guys. DMF, MM and Bolen started because of holes in our lineup. Like football, redshirting allows the wrestling to get strong, while adjusting to the tougher competition (especially quality top riders, which he won't encounter in HS). Bolen and DMF struggle a bit at first. MM doesn't seem to be struggling as much, but has a lot to learn in the down position.

Lewis is a far better wrestler now than a year ago, because 1) he redshirted and adjusted to the competition..and, 2) he's a "sponge" (Robie's and Frayer's term) and learns from his mistakes. Case in point: he went 4-2 in his first freestyle tourney, before winning the qualifiers and getting the World gold.
