We are solid for Duals, Question marks for Tourney


We should be ranked higher for dual scoring than tournament scoring (and we are) because the team is solid and will knock off most teams that are outside the top ten.

But tournament scoring gets warped dramatically by the presence of a few studs that are likely to make it into the semis and finals (let alone PSU's half a dozen that might do that).

Guys who are ranked Nos. 12 -25 are not expected to add a lot to tournament points although they will help you win a lot of duals.

A couple of years ago, we had numerous guys who were expected to be top 5 or so, and the team reached #4 when they all performed. We have a solid team across the board right now with lots of great young talent (like Hunter Bolen, who is redshirting) but fewer likely top 5 wrestlers. Bear in mind too that no one in the ranking world is going to make Mekhi Lewis a top 5 type until he goes out and proves it. Could happen, but that's not calculated in the polls right now.
