Kenny is markedly more likeable than Wolff. I think you're right
about lofty expectations (perhaps unrealistic expectations). Personally, I was hopeful of an improvement to the middle of the pack in the ACC.
What I was expecting to see was more subjective in nature. I was hopeful of having a recognizable offensive scheme, better blocking out for rebounds, being more aggressive on offense and fast breaks, and Kenny being more effective in working the referees. In other words, tangible, discernible progress in the overall program. None of this has occurred.
On top of all this, Kenny's postgame presser was very problematic. He took the Fuente role of blaming the players. Clearly, Kenny won't be fired (the buyout is too expensive). We continued to pay Dennis Wolff for years after his departure. That being said, the longer he stays without marked improvement is going to increase scrutiny of his efforts/successes/shortcomings. From my personal viewpoint, I'm resigned to being frustrated.
