It is weird and I have a theory that it's not deliberate sometimes, but


you make them feel like they're going slow so they subconciously speed up.

Another thing is folks on cell phones, they don't realize they're not paying attention to driving and drive slow while on the call, then calls over, they see they're doing 50 mph and speed up. Some of that is deliberate though, guys doing it in the left lane so that the cars clear out in front of them and they can concentrate on the call.

It is weird though, you see a car 1/4 mile up the road, slowly catch up with them, slowly pass them, then a minute or two later they blow by you. I do cruise control so I know it ain't me.

Actually it was Michael S's theory which I agree with.
