The calls were allowed to stand because the replay ref found the evidence
to overturn the call to be inconclusive.
It has been noted that despite the help replays gives in getting accurate calls, replay does not guarantee perfection. There remains a human element.
The calls by or not by refs on the field remain the authoritative call. Replay allows to correct clearly botched calls. Hogan's catch, regardless of if it was, was still a remarkable one handed grab that he corralled in for a catch.
Pass interference is more subtle. It falls in the same grey area as balls and strikes do in baseball and personal fouls do in baseball. Perfection is not possible with human refs, but human calls with imperfections remains the authority in sports. The question for the Saints game is not whether the non-call was accurate, but whether the amount of contact allowed was consistent with how it was called the rest of the game.
(for the record, I was hoping for a Patriots/Saints Super Bowl, so I half won
