The rule doesn't say anything about having your hand on the ball.
If a player has established control, the ball may move and even touch the ground -- so long as the player maintains control of the ball. You can maintain control using your body, forearm, upper arm, etc.
I was rooting for KC. But that call was the right one, given the rule and the available video evidence.
