Before posting my (Hoo) thoughts, I thought

I’d give the post-game board time to settle down a little bit.

As I expected the game was a rock fight, even if we did have bigger rocks (this time). We went into the locker room at the half with a nice lead. Y’all charged out of the locker room scrapping and clawing and sliced away a large chunk of the lead. And played hard all game long. Say whatever you want about Williams, but he always gets maximum effort out of his players. I'm thinking he's not only an exceptional coach but a teacher of character as well.

The main differences in this year’s game at our place, as I see it: Clarke is missing from your line-up (I hate to see that since he’s my favorite Virginia Tech player since Deron Washington); our three-point shooting was unseasonably hot (duh); this year we have found some new offensive weapons; Robinson wasn’t able to touch our paint as much; we were able to get Blackshear in foul trouble.

Ours is a very interesting series, particularly for the coaching moves/countermoves taking place. Last year at your place you tried to run on us, unsuccessfully. So Williams changed your strategy, in the main using Robinson to touch the paint and kick to open 3 point shooters and cutters. This time Robinson wasn’t able to touch the paint as much (our Clark had something to do with that), so there weren’t as many open shooters and cutters to find. To be sure, there were some, just not as many.

It will be interesting to see what wrinkles Williams cooks up for us in Blacksburg. There will be some. I have no doubt about that.

Good luck the rest of the year, except when you play us, and particularly when you play the Carolina teams.
