had this tendency with JJ Reddick and other teams. It's why many of those teams struggled in the NCAAT (relative to their talent of course). 3 Point shooting doesn't travel nearly as well as defense and penetrating offenses. Villanova, while able to shoot, has built teams that could get in the lane and finish. That would open up outside looks but wasn't the heart of their offense.

Those Duke teams had inside presence. Zoubek wasn't the NBA guy the other 2 were (or drafted to be). But Zoubek was what won them that tile. Coach K incerted him in the starting lineup in Feb and Duke never looked back:

" Per 40 minutes of play, he averaged 16.8 rebounds.[12] Zoubek led the NCAA in pace-adjusted offensive rebounding at 7.8 per 40 minutes for the season and is second in this category for the past decade"

My Point: 3 pt shooting is vitale in today's game. But winning on the road and in neutral venue's often requires more than just outside shooting...
