Buzz is a very good coach...

much the way Bennett is a very good coach. Both took poor programs and made them better than average / good in 5 years. This is Buzz’s fifth year at Tech. Buzz took over a last place 2-16 (9-22) ACC team with CAA level talent and turned them into a NCAAT quality program that has a very realistic chance at making noise in the post-season. He’s done this in Blacksburg where some referred to the town as “a place where basketball dies.” Bennett won the ACC in his fifth and made the Sweet 16. Tech won’t win the ACC with UVa and Duke holding a lock on the top 2, but Tech will finish near the top of the ACC this year.

As to your varsity vs JV analogy, it was this same “JV” team that made UVa look inept in their own house last year. The same “JV” that also beat Duke. May be small, but definitely not slow. I expect there is still some exciting games ahead of Tech this season.

So is there reason to be excited? Absoultely! Only an obnoxious delusional Hoover would think this isn’t something for Tech fans to get excited about. I think what worries the Hoovers is that every year Buzz stays with our program, the bigger pain in UVa’s rear we’ll be. If Buzz stays for a longer stint than I expect, he will take us to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 in a few years. If he bolts Tech for another program, then all bets are off.
