My front loader can be paused and items added.


The is some limit on when and how long into a load that it can be paused, but you do not need to drain the washer. On a normal wash cycle, I have added items 10 - 15 minutes into the load.
This option likely varies by brand and model, mine is a 2 year old Maytag.

The machine used very little water, so opening the door on most cycles is not an issue as the water is not up to the door when the machine is stopped.
