That there is value in a 6 figure education...
...just because they don't take advantage of it, doesn't mean that there isn't value in it....and to just dismiss and ignore that when looking at what these athletes get is ignorant. Does it mean some probably don't deserve something on top of that...not at all...some certainly do. But the premise (directly stated or implied) that they're slaves or indentured servants because ALL they get is a college education paid for is absurd.
One's opportunity to go to the NFL is irrelevant to that point. I'm not against kids going straight to the NBA or the NFL or whatever professional sport out of HS if they're good enough. I don't think very many 18 years olds are read for that though. So in leiu of being ready THEN, one alternative is college sports...and the "compensation" of a college education is a pretty damn good deal for the vast majority of them. IMO blowing the opportunity for that education is not much different than the 1st round pick that blows through millions.
