It's worth it for all of them...to say otherwise is foolish.


That said, they actually have to make an effort though. Now is it harder for the ones that actually have a chance to go pro to see that, sure...but to say it isn't worth it if they put effort into it is ridiculous (also doesn't mean some might not deserve more). Now, should schools look at a targeted program perhaps for those top prospects? Possibly. Maybe a sports management type curriculum that would help them with finance, etc while also preparing them for other avenues if their pro career doesn't work out (coaching, broadcasting, etc). But it should be something that is applied for like every other discipline/major and one's professional prospects should be considered.
