Re: Will's recent piece. One disagreement

Will listed out bullet points of bad plays and otherwise poor defensive play as evidence of a low ceiling of potential. While those cases were horrible and costly I did not find that most of these errors/epic fails were caused by perpetual inability but rather inexperience and/or a wanting lack of football IQ. Both of those two things can be mitigated and/or eliminated by proper "coaching up".

What I am, however, baffled by this year is the frustrating lack of what CFB used to describe "we just got to keep getting better". If anything, we regressed.

I do agree wholeheartedly with the points about not (or at least the implication of not) doing full due diligence to "save" a player before puling the plug on him. While I don't know the inside circumstances of the player kicked off after the ODU game, I believe that one act of removal alone may have cost us 1 or 2 wins. Especially, when considering the off-season DEF drama.

Virginia Tech is a "developmental" program meaning that we can't rely on 5Star blue-bloods but rather coaching up, mentoring, and high tech health and strength programs etc. That being the case, the priority it seems to me is to remediate and repair a guy before you cut him loose.
