After watching the poor effort of some of our defensive players
highlighted in Will' s article a thought occurred to me. During Bud Foster's reign, I just don't remember many times that our players gave such a poor effort. Also, I believe that this is the first season that Bud spent time calling games from the coaches' booth rather than on the field. Could the two be related? If a player knows that Bud is going to be in their face immediately after a poor effort on the field, they are naturally going to be more willing to give a great effort. With Bud in the booth there is no immediate pressure to perform.Sure, they will get yelled at during the film session but the players just decide they will deal with that when the time comes. I realize this isn't going to solve any talent issues, but at least have more people running to the ball.
I guess this is a crazy thought, but I am very puzzled by what I saw from some of our players. I would hope our players would take more pride in their craft.
