Culture and money are the deciding factors

VT is a bigger school than Clemson, with 2x CU's endowment, but the football culture isn't there. Something like 40% of VT's students hail from Northern Virginia, and football just isn't as big a deal in NoVa as it is in SC.

VT's alumni base is wealthy enough to put VT in the top 20 of athletic department revenue, and with money comes facilities, top shelf assistants, and wins. But how do you teach alumni to care about footall?

I know hokies that live in million-dollar homes, that love football and want VT to win, but they aren't Hokie Club members. How about a couple hundred bucks per year - essentially your cable bill for one month? It doesn't make sense.
