If the email came from a company exec...it was smart of him
it amazes me how name dropping makes otherwise intelligent people do moronic things.
If that email implied a VP or exec in the company wanted something all sorts of people would pucker up down below and immediately respond.
A few years ago someone was able to get our CFOs bonus routed to the hackers bank account by spoofing the CFOs name on an email and sending it to our corporate services rep. She updated the routing without verifying because she was afraid of questioning it. Funny thing is, the CFO is a great guy who would have appreciated the effort if it had been him that sent it.
