Heat pump? AC with gas heat? Regardless, I think you'll get good performance with Daikin. As typed by ben mentioned, they are have a huge manufacturing facility in Virginia. I remember seeing a PBS show that highlighted the construction of that plant and interviewed several Daikin executives. Granted, it was basically a fluff piece, but they seemed pretty serious about quality control.
