We tend to take the little things for granted


When I helped my brother and sister I just started with the very basics. Literally start at a complete stop and inch the car forward to feel when brake pressure is needed and how much. Then let them hit the brakes hard to feel what that is like. All in a straight line.

Then after brakes we went to gas and again it was small stuff first to feel what different amount of gas feel like in a straight line.

That is just basic comfort behind the wheel and getting to “be one with the car”. Once they have those basics then it is much easier to work on turns, parking, and general awareness of surroundings.

Oh and I also drove them around with me behind the wheel and narrated what I was doing and looking at so that they could follow along and learn from me.
