In the band you describe, I'm very partial to Klipsh


And unless you are very un-discerning (meaning way way way below audiophile level) don't listen to the people who suggest Sonos. Terrible sound except in spaces with the perfect acoustics.

If you want something that sounds fantastic but isn't a bang-your-head floor speaker, check out Quad L-ite. Bookshelf size (plus powered subwoofer) but sound amazing. Pricey, and may be what you mean by audiophile quality.
