...next door to the nation's capital and relatively wealthy, along with a large, respected research university with several successful athletic programs. Nice partner for PSU which has a large alumni presence in northern Virginia.

The Big Ten stealing Maryland was a gut punch to the ACC - it destroyed our virtual monopoly on the DC metro area. It sucked. Period. The ACC got Papa John U. in return, and UL's football program has come back down to earth to emphasize how crappy that trade was.

Rutgers is an athletic embarrassment outside of a handful of sports, but the Big 10 still bought the sixth-most populous state. It's real value might be as an automatic W for PSU in football. I'd say Rutgers is a wash.
