They may have a few nice seasons here and there, but for the most part they are bottom dwellers.

There is a reason why Alabama, LSU, FLA, UGA, A&M, and Auburn can pay whatever is needed for a head coach, and why coaches at ARK, MSU, Ole Miss will leave those schools for the top 5 teams of the SEC. It's why A&M didn't think twice about paying Jimbo $7.5M a season to leave FSU.

Not selling tickets is the reason why DJ Durkin is still head coach at Maryland because the athletic department can't afford to pay him off. UMCP has to keep him for the next two seasons even though they would probably like to get rid of him, but if they did, they would have to cut some more sports, and they are already up against the B1G's minimums as is IIRC.
