The '98 team lost to Temple in Lane Stadium

Yes, they had three losses of less then six points. But that team was farther from going undefeated then just three plays. The offense was atrocious, averaging only 316 yards a game. Al Clark was the QB, throwing for 1050 yards, while completing 49% of his passes.

Was the '98 close? I'd say it was a Michael Vick and Corey Moore away from what they did in '99. That team produced 455 yards again, thanks to Vick, and breakout seasons by juniors Shyrone Stith, Andre Kendrick and sophomore Andre Davis.

Bottom line, the growing pains we see now are part of the process to be better in '19 - '21, just as disappointments in '97 and '98 (Tech was ranked #14 and lost to an 0-6 Temple team in Lane) produced the '99 team.
