There are times I miss the pre-BCA/BCS era
when all the bowl games were based on conference tie ins and there was always a debate in the offseason which team should have been crowned AP/Coaches Champion or who would have won if Team A and Team B played each other in a bowl game. The problem I had with the BCA and BCS was that it devalued the other bowl games by having 1 bowl game where it was #1 vs. #2 based on whatever poll. Prior to that most years had 2-3 (maybe even 4) bowl games with national title implications due to the rankings of the participating teams based on the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. Also, 1 team could be ranked #1 in the AP Poll and #5 in the Coaches Poll which only added to the excitement of the bowl season and increased the number of contenders that could be playing for a national title. Whereas, the BCA/BCS and the Playoff have reduced the number of polls that matter down to basically 1.
