It believe it is those particular planes that fly over Radford
just about every other day. Usually 2-4 at a time. That probably helps, as the same guys just adjust their route and timing a bit. The best fly-over ever at Radford was a big group(at least 8) of C-17s doing a very low pass right over town, then making a hard bank right heading south. The sound was incredible.
I read somewhere the Radford Army Arsenal has long been a waypoint for training sorties and other missions. Even back to the days of the cold-war, they would stage mock nuclear bomb drops on the city of Radford, often with LIVE bombs.... until one of those bombs was lost Lost in GA somewhere (I Think it was GA)... it was NEVER recovered. Some live Nuclear bomb in in a marsh somewhere in the lower 48....
Love having the VTCC connections to make them happen though. VT's military history is something to be proud of.
