The defender was in the free zone. The block wasn’t below the waist or engaged so it was fair game. “Blind side” means the defender didn’t have his head turned toward Nijman. It does not necessarily mean the defender was defenseless and hit from the back. Ever heard the phrase “getting earholed” ? Its a hit thst comes from the side. This was a light touch from the side.
