Yes they did. Their argument was "player safety" due to injuries at the
position which I think is complete BS. Teams deal with depth problems every season due to injuries. If a guy is suspended he should be suspended. If that means you need to take the redshirt off someone else or play a guy that's not ready to play then so be it... that's the entire point of a suspension. You can't tell me there wasn't another player available that could have played that position. Instead there wasn't another player available that was nearly as good that could have played that position. I'm sure they'll have the guy sit out his one game later this year against Western Carolina or something. Being able to pick when you guy is suspended completely defeats the purpose of suspensions. If I'm the UNC player the lesson here is don't worry about getting suspended because they (UNC and NCAA) will be sure to let you play in the important games.
