My generator has an on/off valve on the fuel line. I typically turn it to

off and let the generator run until it uses up the gas in the line. This prevents gas from sitting in the carburetor while the generator is not is use. The remaining gas in the tank (non-ethynol with stabilizer added) will be drained if not used in the next 6-8 months. I try to run the generator every 6 mos just to keep everything ready to go. I can drain the generator's tank into a gas can and use it up in my mower during the summer if the gas starts getting old.
