Right now I would agree with you that the ACC is probably better off

with Notre Dame as a partial member. However, I am not sure the margin of difference between the 2 states of existence (if it could be quantified somehow) is as great as you may think given that Notre Dame football is not a member of the ACC.

The reason I say that is because if the ACC found itself in a situation where it had to decide between keeping the current arrangement with Notre Dame vs. risk losing Clemson, FSU, or maybe Miami, then I am not sure the ACC would always side with Notre Dame. Another "interesting" scenario the ACC could find itself in is whether it would be willing to sacrifice its current deal with Notre Dame in order to add just Texas and Oklahoma as full members. I am not sure the ACC would side with Notre Dame in that scenario.

In both scenarios above and all the previous ones I mentioned, Notre Dame does have an opportunity to save itself (aka preserve the current relationship) by finding a second non-football member that 75% of the current members would be willing to add. Honestly, I am not sure there are that many schools out there that fit that profile. Villanova is the only one that comes to mind and even that may be a "maybe" at best.
