WW2 peeps: thumbs up or thumbs down on Darkest Hour (2017)? SPOILS...

I like it.
I love anything mum's side by any self-definition.
------------------
And Winnie was just a damn dawgg.
Talk about holding a country together by its final few strings.

As the light at the end of the Darkest tunnel was "fat boy" h.goering ruining the radar stations.
Had he choose (correctly) to do so. Then that Sea Lion might tried to swim that Channel.

So I gotta give the real Winnie mad mad props as a militant political operator goes.
As extremely few have rallied to win that far behind on ass got kicked off an
entire continent; points (i.e. to win).
--------------------
Now that said... how did Gary Oldman win an Academy Award here?

he's okay.
He actually does flirt with good at times...

However, I've seen Winnie done much more successfully, forcefully, and compellingly than this.
And Winnie himself and all his idiosyncrasies are turnkey cookiecutter pure cinematic gold.

Now mix in Battle of Britan or Dunkirk or either "happy time" with a very very bloodied
Tommy nearly being canvas mopped by jerry and you have big screen materials
galore, quite plural.

I did like the look at Chamberlain and Viscount Halifax.

Not many films have dared to do that. (wild Churchill consensus building via putting them
on his War Committee. Very Woody Wilson of him) And I do view them as well intended.
Pious. Sincere. There are far worse souls than those 2 historically.

Though England needed a bulldog; not 2 poodles.
Not matter their pricey pounding Westminister non-mongrel pedigree.

The sets/scenery, costuming, lingo, lighting... lotta little to medium things to really like here...

Still yet, the movie itself is pleasantly hilly. Not quite flat. Though pretty far
removed from being Academy Award-winning monumental for a lead actor.

you???
