Irma was a "wind event" in Key West maybe. But it was surely a flood event

all over Florida. A lot of people don't know it, but Irma caused record flooding in Jacksonville.

Anybody on the infamous "right quadrant" of Irma got crushed within 20 miles of the eye. Everyone 5 feet or so above sea level in the Keys got flooded all the way up to Key Largo, 80 miles away.

If you are in NC, or places like low lying Norfolk, you need to be preparing for flood water. I would be taking down the lower drywall panels (bottom 4') right now to prevent mold from trapped/absorbed water, getting furniture to upper levels, cars boats and trailers to higher ground, etc. It's coming, and it is going to flood - trust me. Do extraordinary things right now. If you evacuate they aren't going to let you back for a long time, and your place and things that could be saved if your were there to dry things out, will be destroyed.
